ABOUT PILATES |
| Pilates is a unique form of body conditioning, originally known as "Contrology", that was developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920's. The focus of Pilates is to build a strong core, specifically in those areas supporting the spine and abdomen. Pilates also focuses on improving flexibility throughout the body, resulting in restored height and spinal realignment. Joseph Pilates began the development of his technique with a series of mat exercises, done in a specific order, to create fluidity and most importantly, control. |
| "In ten sessions you will feel the difference, in twenty you will see the difference, and in thirty you'll have a whole new body." |
| - Joseph H. Pilates | Soon after, he invented several pieces of equipment, known today as the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Arc Barrel and Spine Corrector. The equipment uses springs for resistance, versus the commonly used weight, which allows more range of motion and connected movement. Throughout the last 85 years, the Pilates world has grown dramatically and has advanced to the forefront of fitness, now widely included in basic physical therapy and physical training. |
